Crispy golden croquettes filled with rich, silky beef ragout
Cynthia’s croquettes are a beloved Indo-Dutch snack, born from the fusion of Dutch and Indonesian cuisines. These golden parcels are filled with a savoury mixture of slow-cooked beef mince, vegetables, and potato, rolled in fine breadcrumbs, and deep-fried until irresistibly crisp on the outside with a soft, fluffy filling inside. Every bite delivers crunch followed by tender, spiced beef and potato – the kind of flavour and texture contrast that makes them a staple across generations of Indo-Dutch families.
This recipe has been passed down from Cynthia’s grandmother, who prepared many Indo-Dutch dishes after growing up in Indonesia during Dutch colonial times. Today, Cynthia continues this tradition, sharing croquettes that celebrate her heritage and introduce more people to the vibrant but little-known world of this cuisine. Whether enjoyed as a snack with mustard, part of a mezze-style spread, or as a light meal with salad and bread, these croquettes bring together the best of two cultures in every bite.

Hi I'm Cynthia,
Cooking just puts me in the best mood. Almost always when I’m in the kitchen I’ll have 70s music playing in the background – “Oh, What a Night” never gets old! Cooking is important to me because it is therapeutic. Nothing works as a better stress-reliever and nothing is more therapeutic than getting in the kitchen and cooking good wholesome food. I love cooking because absolutely nothing makes me happier than feeding my loved ones and seeing people enjoy my cooking.
