Hi, I'm Maria!

Authentic Italian & Cucina Povera
★ Accredited Food Safety Supervisor

I was born in Calabria, the Southern part of Italy, and my culinary journey began at the young age of 6 when I started watching and helping my mother in the kitchen.

In my family, we prioritised organic and seasonal food. My grandparents owned orchids and olive groves, as well as raising livestock such as beef, goats, and pigs. We even had our own vegetable garden and enjoyed organic eggs.

From my mother and grandmother, I gained invaluable knowledge. We engaged in the art of pickling and preserving various foods like tomato passata, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and salami. These experiences formed the foundation of my understanding of what truly delicious food should taste like.

At 21, we opened a restaurant, which deepened my love for food. Starting as a waitress, I eventually found my place in the kitchen. As a perfectionist, I was driven to learn more. My sweet tooth led me to discover the world of pastries, and I became particularly obsessed with desserts.

I would often stay up until 3 am, tirelessly baking and perfecting cakes, eclairs, and other delectable treats.

Working alongside talented chefs provided me with further inspiration to explore regional Italian cuisine as well as various culinary traditions from around the world.

Over the years, I have hosted countless dinner parties, sharing my passion for regional Italian cooking, as well as Italian and French desserts and pastries, with everyone who joins me.
