A family recipe from Transylvania, made with homemade sauerkraut
Amalia’s Hungarian Cabbage Rolls are a recipe passed down from her grandmother in Transylvania, where she first learned to roll tender cabbage leaves around a savoury filling of beef, chicken, rice, dill, and spices. Slowly cooked in a light tomato sauce enriched with her own homemade sauerkraut, these rolls carry the taste of Amalia's family tradition.
The sauerkraut is the secret. Fermented the old-fashioned way, not from a jar, it adds a tangy depth of flavour that brightens the dish and provides natural probiotics for gut health. This is the ingredient that makes Amalia's cabbage rolls so distinctive — the reason her family still reserves them for Christmas and Easter gatherings. Simply serve with sour cream and fresh bread to soak up the sauce, it’s Hungarian heritage on your plate, now freshly frozen for you to enjoy anytime.

Preparation:
Step 1 - Defrost in microwave or fridge overnight
Step 2 - Microwave until hot (approx 3mins) Our foil is microwave safe!
** Alternatively after defrosting, heat in a pot on the cooktop in the sauce until heated through ensuring it doesn't stick to the bottom, so shake the pot time to time. Do not stir as it can break the rolls.
🥖 Best served with a dollop of sour cream and fresh bread to soak up the sauce.
Ingredients: Beef, Chicken, Cabbage, Corn Flour, Dill, Tomato, Tomato paste, Sauerkraut, Arborio rice, Salt, Pepper

Hi I'm Amalia,
I was born in Transylvania and my heritage is proudly Hungarian. I go back on holidays as often as I can to our family home in the countryside where I fill up on the hearty food Hungary is so well known for. Packed with paprika and onions, it may not be the prettiest to look at but it can’t be beaten on flavour in my humble opionion. I’ve been cooking since I was 8 or 9, learning from my Mum and from her Mum too. Now, alongside studying commercial cooking, I’m excited to bring you these simple, delicious flavours in my authentic Hungarian food.
