Moon Cakes

The Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival (September 13 this year) is one of the most celebrated events in the Chinese calendar. It is steeped in traditions but essentially it is a harvest celebration. There's a saying that translates to "when the moon is full people come together" and as a token of celebration Moon Cakes are given and shared to celebrate the festival. These are the perfect gift for anyone celebrating the Moon Festival!

Every year I make Moon Cakes for my family and friends. My Mooncakes are all handmade with no preservatives including my own handmade pastry, fillings and even the golden syrup to go with the Mooncakes is homemade.
When I was little my grandfather was the master of making Mooncakes. I remember him making them when we lived in the country side in Cambodia. When I was about 2 or 3 years old we moved to the city and sadly my Grandfather stopped making them, there just wasn't enough space. When I moved to Australia and had more space I was so excited to start making these beloved cakes just like my Grandfather did. I can't wait to share them with you!
