Char Sui Bao Bun - BBQ Bun

These delicious BBQ buns are handmade from scratch. First I marinade pork neck overnight with soy sauce, five spice, red wine, salt, palm sugar and Hoi Xin sauce. Then I grill the pork in the oven until golden brown, remove and let it cool down. Next I stir fry the pork pieces with some onion and garlic and set a side. Then I make the dough, let it rest for one hour then divide into small portions. Finally I wrap the pork in the pastry, let the pastry rise again and then steam until cooked.

I learned this from my grandpa, he made the best grilled BBQ pork on a traditional stove. He then starting turning his famous pork into pork buns and we all fell in love with it! It was a special occasion food, and we could only have these delicious buns on Chinese New Year. Now, I make it for my kids and they love them in their lunch boxes (yes even at room temperature!), This makes me happy because I believe good food helps with their studies and that's why I keep making this super-special food for them. I love the smile son their faces when they see me put BBQ Buns in their lunchboxes and I hope to delight your children with them as well, (and you!).
